Ray Schwartz


WHOSE PRIMARY FOCUS IS THE INTEGRATION OF SOMATIC MOVEMENT EDUCATION AND DANCE PRACTICE. HE CO-FOUNDED FOUR CONTEMPORARY DANCE PROJECTS IN THE SOUTHERN U.S. AND HAS BEEN A GUEST ARTIST IN THE U.S., TURKEY, SOUTH-EAST ASIA, SOUTH AMERICA, AND MEXICO

His somatic studies include certifications in Body-Mind Centering 0 and the Feldenkrais MethodĀ®. Additional studies include Zero-BalancingĀ®, Gross Anatomy, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, and Traditional Thai Massage. He is a research associate with the Center for Body Mind Movement and served as Academic Coordinator of the Dance Program of the University of the Americas-Puebla in Mexico from 2008 to 2018
Many years ago he felt an urgent call to explore the meaning, myth and potential of the implications of embodiment and social constructions of gender. Among other activities and research he was fortunate to attend men’s workshops with Robert Bly, and he has been part of development and facilitation teams in various events and projects which focused on people who identify as men coming together in solidarity to investigate and enrich one another’s perspectives on self image, community, creativity and understanding.
